Is SEO Dead?

posted in: How Tos, WordPress | 4

“Is SEO Dead?” Well, that depends on how you look at it. Search Engine Optimization has changed a lot since the last few Google algorhythm updates. You see, Google is trying to refine the way the SEO game is played. They don’t want it to even BE a game. They want to reward websites with good, high quality content and the trustworthy experts that are creating that content. And, they want to make it more difficult for people to game the system and get ranked for things they don’t deserve to rank for.

So in a sense, SEO is dead.

It’s dead from the viewpoint of needing some high-tech SEO expert to get your website ranked for the things it truly and honestly deserves to rank for. So for the high-priced SEO firms who were charging thousands of dollars a month to get you up in the search engines, well yeah. SEO is kind of dead for them. Because it’s not about gaming the system anymore. It’s about creating really good content for readers. And you don’t need an SEO expert to do that.

SEO is now within YOUR reach.

If you’re a small business owner or entrepreneur who is simply wanting to be matched up with the people who are looking for your products and services – SEO is very much alive and well. The first thing you need to do is create high-quality content that is useful for your website visitors. The next thing you need to do is make sure you’re giving Google the information it needs to understand what your content is about.

Since I launched the Do-It-Yourself SEO for Small Business course, I’ve talked to a LOT of small business owners about SEO. So many of them aren’t sure exactly what SEO means, or how it might be worth their time. So I’ve started a new free Facebook group just for small business owners and entrepreneurs who are beginners with SEO. Come on over and learn about what SEO is, and how easy it is to implement the basic pieces. If you’re not using SEO, you’re missing out on huge amounts of free traffic to your website. Why not join the group and see what happens?

Great work! SEO is most definitely not dead and certainly sick of some people saying it is. I’ll be joining the group 🙂 I actually just wrote a post about what SEO in 2015 means for a whole web team, I feel it’s a much more collaborate effort thesedays. Anyway! See you in your group 🙂

Hannah, I feel the same way about it. The changes Google is making puts the emphasis in exactly the right place: the content. Which means that a small business owner isn’t at as much of a disadvantage when competing with the big guys. There is still some work involved, but it’s work that makes for a better reader experience so I’m happy. I look forward to chatting with you in the group!
